Charles University Delegation Visits NTNU to Strengthen Academic Ties

On July 23, 2025, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) welcomed a delegation from Charles University, led by Professor Eva Voldřichová Beránková, Ph.D., Vice Rector for International Affairs, accompanied by Ms. Sylvie Boumová, Director of the International Relations Office.

In recent years, both universities have built a strong foundation for collaboration, with 2025 marking significant progress. In addition to constructive exchanges during the NAFSA 2025 conference, Charles University and NTNU are actively engaged in the Interested Czech Universities (ICU) and University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT), respectively. This strategic ICU-UAAT partnership has facilitated deeper academic ties and mutual growth.

Under this partnership, ICU professors are eligible to apply for subsidized one-month visiting scholar opportunities in Taiwan, with travel and accommodation expenses fully covered. One such scholar, Professor Tomáš Klinka, Vice-Dean for Foreign Affairs at Charles University’s Faculty of Education, completed a UAAT-funded visiting program at NTNU in April 2025. He was hosted by Professor Yi-De Liu, NTNU’s Vice President for International Affairs.

During their July visit, the Charles University delegation experienced a full day of cultural and academic engagement. Their visit began at NTNU’s renowned Mandarin Training Center (MTC), where they were welcomed by Associate Director Professor Chao-Mei Tu and Vice President for International Affairs, Professor Yi-De Liu. The morning featured a curated cultural program including a ShenJiang street dance performance by the Hoyi Dance Crew and a traditional Hakka Lei tea-making session. Professor Tu also introduced the delegation to MTC’s various language programs and facilities.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the National Palace Museum, further experiencing a deeper appreciation of Taiwan's rich cultural heritage.

While Charles University’s Faculty of Physical Education and Sport and NTNU’s College of Sports and Recreation have had a college-level Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) since March 28, 2019, this latest visit signals a promising step toward establishing a broader, university-wide partnership.
