General Information

Foreigners who would like to study degree programs at NTNU may apply as “International Students” or “Overseas Chinese Students.” Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements as international students may submit applications directly to NTNU. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements as overseas Chinese students may apply through the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students (UECOCS) or through Recommendation by Overseas Senior High Schools. 4. (4) Overseas Chinese identity students can attend Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students (NUPS) in order to improve their Chinese proficiency, lay foundation to their college studies and to adapt the college life beforehand.  more information

Eligibility for applying for NTNU degree programs for international students and overseas Chinese students is slightly different.

International students:Applicants must meet the MOE Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan. An individual of foreign nationality, who has never held nationality status from the Republic of China (“R.O.C.”) and who does not possess an overseas Chinese student status at the time of their application, is qualified to apply for admission under this regulation.

Overseas Chinese students:Applicants must meet the MOE Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Chinese Students in Taiwan. The term "Overseas Chinese Student” refers to those who were born overseas and resided there till the present time, or have stayed overseas for more than six consecutive years and have a permanent or long-term residence certificate.

Students from Hong Kong or Macao:Applicants must meet the MOE regulations regarding students from Hong Kong or Macao undertaking studies in Taiwan. An individual who has a permanent residence certificate issued by governments of Hong Kong or Macao and has resided in Hong Kong, Macao, or another foreign country for more than six consecutive years, is qualified to apply for undertaking studies in Taiwan.

If you meet the requirements for both statuses, you may refer to separate Admission Prospectus to decide which student identity you would like to choose. The major differences would be:

1. Tuition fee: tuition rates for Overseas Chinese Students are the same with the rates for Taiwanese Students, while tuition for international students are approximately two times than that of Overseas Chinese Students.
2. Scholarship: scholarship for Overseas Chinese students are usually available after students are enrolled, while international students have to apply for scholarship prior their enrollment. For more information, please refer to the following two websites:

4. Once you choose to apply as an “Overseas Chinese Student,” you will have to choose the channel of Overseas Chinese Student admission recruitment and are not allowed to shift as an international student.

Studying at an undergraduate program
Overseas Chinese students: tuition per year (two semesters): NT$56,000, equivalent to US$1,900.
International students: tuition per year (two semesters): NT$112,000, equivalent to US$3,800.

Studying at a postgraduate program:
Overseas Chinese students: tuition per year (two semesters): NT$26000, equivalent to US$860; Credit fee: NT$35000, equivalent to US$1200.
International students: tuition per year (two semesters): NT$114000, equivalent to US$3800 (for the first two academic years); NT$66,600, equivalent to US$2,220 (for the third academic year and above).

On-Campus Dormitory (Utilities not included): Around NT$12,600~NT$24,700 per year, equivalent to US$450~US$850.
Off Campus Dormitory (Individual rooms): Around NT$8,000~NT$16,000 per month, equivalent to US$300~US$600.
Living expenses: Around NT$9,000~NT$12,000 per month, equivalent to US$300~US$400.
