It is not compulsory to study at the Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students at NTNU (abbreviated below to “NTNU Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students”). Overseas Chinese students who wish to study at NTNU may submit individual applications to the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students (UECOCS) or participate in joint admission placements conducted by the UECOCS. If overseas Chinese students fail to be assigned to NTNU, they may apply to the UECOCS for being re-assigned to the NTNU Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students by September 10. After students complete one-year study of the preparatory programs, the NTNU Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students will submit students’ final results from the program along with other application materials to the UECOCS, and the UECOCS will determine which university each overseas Chinese student will be assigned to.
Studying at the NTNU Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students has many benefits. It can better prepare students for college-level schoolwork (the Division also offers evening remedial teaching course and Chinese improvement course which is partially taught in English), enhance students’ Chinese language abilities and help them adapt to college life earlier.
However, if you cannot speak Chinese at all or cannot communicate in Chinese fluently, we strongly suggest that you should directly apply for studying at the NTNU Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students via the UECOCS. This will help you better cope with the academic work and campus life in the future.
