International Cooperation

Heidelberg University is the oldest university in contemporary Germany. Its Vice President Dr. A. Stephen K. Hashmi visited NTNU with administrators and teachers from the school and were welcomed by Vice President Wu Cheng-Chih. Both parties talked about exchange programs and hoped to achieve more interaction on academic works.

Heidelberg University was founded in 1386 and was ranked the top 1 university of Germany in 2014 QS ranking and the 49th among the world. In 2015 Academic Ranking of World Universities, it’s the 1st in Germany and the 46th among the world.

Sociologist Maximilian Karl Emil Weber and neuro scientist Karl von Bachmen are both alumni from this prestigious university. By 2014, 55 Nobel Laureates have studied, taught or worked in Heidelberg University.

Vice President Wu Cheng-Chih, Deputy Dean Howard Hao-Jan Chen, Director Iping Liang from the Office of International Affairs and Assist Professor Sung H. L. in Chemistry in the Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese all joined this meeting.

NTNU has long connected with Heidelberg University. The Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language first started the exchange program in 2005. In 2009, NTNU became a sister school of Heidelberg University. 6 students have come to NTNU and 7 students have studied in Heidelberg University. NTNU welcomes more cooperation in the future.
