Yonsei University Delegation Visits NTNU to Explore Academic Collaboration
On June 2, 2025, a delegation from Yonsei University, one of South Korea’s top institutions, visited National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) to explore opportunities for academic collaboration. The delegation was led by President Dong-Sup Yoon, joined by Professor Hyun-Cheol Kim, Dean of the Graduate School, and Mr. Jongwon Kim, Exchange Program Manager for Asia and Oceania. This visit marked President Yoon’s first time at NTNU and in Taiwan.
NTNU President Cheng-Chih Wu welcomed the delegation alongside faculty members including Professor Tsong-Han Lee, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts; Professor Chi-Hung Li, Chair of the Department of Chinese; Professor Chao-Mei Tu, Associate Executive Director of the Mandarin Training Center; and Professor Yi-De Liu, Vice President for International Affairs.
While this was President Yoon’s first visit, Dean Hyun Cheol Kim is already well acquainted with NTNU through longstanding ties with the College of Liberal Arts. A tenured professor in Chinese Language and Literature at Yonsei University, he has been in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts, and he remarked that being at NTNU feels like being at home.
The discussion addressed shifting trends in higher education, including the growing preference among South Korean students for internships over overseas exchanges. Both sides explored potential collaboration models, such as short-term faculty-led programs tailored to students across disciplines.
The visit concluded with an invitation from Yonsei University to participate in their upcoming 140th anniversary project in September 2025. Both institutions expressed optimism about developing new avenues for partnership in the near future.
