Goethe University Frankfurt President Visits NTNU

On March 29, 2025, Professor Cheng-Chih Wu, President of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), welcomed Professor Enrico Schleiff, President of Goethe University Frankfurt (GU), and his wife Mrs. Antje Schleiff to NTNU. This visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and expand academic and cultural exchange, further making a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between the two universities.

The Schleiffs joined President Wu and other NTNU leaders in attending the NTNU Annual Athletic Art Performance Showcase. This unique event, which blends athletic feats with artistic expression, captivated the audience with its visually stunning and dynamic presentations. The guests were particularly impressed by the creativity and talent displayed by NTNU students.

The partnership between NTNU and Goethe University dates back to 2016, beginning with cooperation between NTNU's College of Liberal Arts and GU's Faculty of Linguistics, Cultures, and Arts. Since then, the collaboration has grown significantly. In 2022, the partnership expanded to the university level, further strengthening the ties between the two institutions. Over 60 students have participated in exchange programs, enhancing the academic and cultural connections between NTNU and GU.

In July 2023, President Wu led a delegation to Goethe University, where he signed an expanded exchange agreement with President Schleiff, creating even more opportunities for NTNU students to study abroad. In March 2024, President Schleiff visited NTNU once again, expressing a strong commitment to advancing interdisciplinary collaboration and inviting NTNU faculty and students to participate in joint research projects at Goethe University.

The collaboration continued in June 2024, when Vice President Frank Yung-Hsiang Ying led a faculty delegation to Goethe University. The group engaged in productive discussions with GU leadership on potential cooperative efforts in fields such as astrophysics, intelligent computing, Sinology, and environmental humanities. During this visit, President Schleiff introduced the “4x4 Program,” a new initiative designed to promote exchanges between researchers from both universities. NTNU responded positively to this proposal, and both institutions are eager to expand their collaborative efforts.

This most recent visit has further solidified the partnership between NTNU and Goethe University, opening new doors for academic and cultural exchanges. Both universities are committed to deepening their cooperation in a variety of fields, creating more opportunities for students and faculty to engage in international research and learning, and enhancing the global impact of their academic endeavors.
