International Cooperation

On June 4th, Prof. Eugene Sheehan, Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences; Prof. Michelle Low and Prof.I-Huei Lee from World Languages Department, University of  Northern Colorado, U.S.A., visited NTNU. Prof. Kuang-Chao Yu, Vice President for the International Affairs, Office of International Affairs, and Prof. Jong-Long Guo, Associate Dean from College of Education, welcomed them in person.

University of  Northern Colorado (UNC) has become partner schools with NTNU since 2003, and according to Prof. Eugene Sheehan, he emphasized that similar with NTNU, UNC is also established as a "normal university" in the past, and gradually became a comprehensive one till now. Furthermore, while introducing the features in NTNU, Prof. Sheehan mentioned that there are many similar Departments in NTNU that also exisits in UNC (for example, Department of Educational Psychology and Conseling, Department of Computer Science & Information Engineering, etc.), which means that there is a great opportunity that both universities could have more academic cooperation and research in particular fields.

In addition, since Chinese teaching has become a trend recently, many international students come to NTNU and study Chinese in this center, which is currently the largest and the most renowned Chinese language center in Taiwan, with around 1,700 students from more than 70 countries enrolled each academic quarter. Coincidentally, Prof. Michelle Low and Prof.I-Huei Lee from World Languages Department just attended the 10th International Conference and Workshops on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching from June 1st to June 3rd before they join the courtesy call. Based on Prof.I-Huei Lee's words, she states that since Chinese has gradually become one of the most-used language, they have also set up a courses which allows international students to learn Chinese teaching method, and could even obtain the official teacher license in America. Both universities have a wonderful meeting that day.
