University of Bonn Professor Dr. Matthias Herdegen Visits from Germany
University of Bonn professor Dr. Matthias Herdegen visited National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) on March 27th. He met with NTNU president Kuok-en Chang. President Chang invited Dr. Herdegen to teach at NTNU in hopes of opening up yet more opportunities for international exchange.
Dr. Herdegen spent four days in Taiwan on this trip at the invitation of the Ministry of Justice. The day before he left Taiwan, President Chang invited Dr. Herdegen to visit NTNU. Dr. Herdegen was accompanied by the director of the Department of International and Cross-Strait Legal Affairs of Ministry of Justice, Jian-chung Chiao, in the visit. The deputy dean of NTNU’s Office of International Affairs, Yung-cheng Shen, chief secretary An-pan Lin and the director of the Center of Public Affairs, Wen-pin Hope Lee, joined President Chang in welcoming Dr. Herdegen to NTNU.
The University of Bonn (Rheinishe Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in German) was established in 1818. It has a total of eight colleges, with 38,000 students. The University of Bonn is an international research university which is famous for its research centers and interdisciplinary studies. It attracts exceptional researchers from around the world in a variety of fields, including economics, geological sciences, psychics, life sciences and information engineering.
Dr. Herdegen specializes in European Union law and economic and trade law. His research interests include public law in Germany and abroad, European law, international economic law, international law and biotechnology law. He served as the vice president of the University of Bonn from 1999 to 2004 and currently serves as director and professor of the Institute of Public Law. In words of thanks, Dr. Herdegen mentioned that NTNU is a university with a long history which offers an excellent environment and outstanding learning resources.
